Some of the best rewards you can get from draft day come from rolling the dice on a player coming off a mediocre season or gambling on a player who was injured for much of the prior season. With the season closing in on the halfway mark, I went back through this spring's drafts to find players at a handful of positions who are having great rebound seasons.

If fantasy owners drafted starting pitchers the way they typically do defenses in football, that is as units and not as individuals, which team would rank first? With football creeping into the fantasy consciousness now that the summer has hit, why not engage in a little crossover experiment between America's two favorite fantasy sports?

The Milwaukee Brewers may sit atop the NL Central, but it may be time for them to make a change in their pitching. Their starting rotation has been good as a whole, but Marco Estrada is clearly a weak link. He's allowed a league-high 23 home runs this season. He has surrendered a longball in all but one of his 14 starts. Opposing hitters have taken him deep multiple times in exactly half of his outings; the Brewers are playing with fire if they continue to run him out there while he's allowing home runs on about one-fifth of his fly balls. His ERA is up to 4.82 and his FIP is pushing an even 6.00 in 84 innings. Luckily, Ron Roenicke has a ready-made replacement at Triple-A Nashville.

When Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer went down with long-term injuries in short order, the Rockies offense appeared to take a big hit. Instead, Corey Dickerson has cashed in on the opportunity and has potentially turned himself into a mainstay for Walt Weiss and company.

The Kansas City Royals are driving fantasy baseball owners nuts this season.

When Cooperstown comes calling for a game-used bat, chances are that the player who used that bat will probably end up on top of the SI.com Fantasy Baseball Power Rankings for the week. That's exactly what happened to the Indians' Lonnie Chisenhall.

It's one of the worst kept secrets in baseball that Jason Hammel probably won't be pitching in North Side of Chicago for much longer. The 31-year-old signed a one-year, $6-million deal with the Cubs this offseason, hoping to make him this year's Scott Feldman, whom they turned into Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop at last year's trade deadline. If Hammel keeps pitching as well as he has thus far, the Cubs could get more than what Feldman brought them a year ago.

Craig Kimbrel has been atop of the fantasy baseball closer rankings all year, so it's time to give the game's best closer some love. He's allowed five earned runs while striking out 40 batters in 22 2/3 innings this year, and we expect him to continue to produce at this rate for the rest of the year.

The Nationals sit atop the NL East despite the position players being snakebitten with injuries. Bryce Harper remains on the DL, and Ryan Zimmerman, Adam LaRoche and Wilson Ramos have all spent significant time on the shelf this season. Thanks to the strength of their rotation, however, they entered play Sunday in a first-place tie with the Braves. Their plus-40 run differential is the second best in the NL and third best in the majors, trailing only the Giants and A's. They've also allowed the second fewest runs in the league, with only the Cardinals surrendering fewer.

Over the past month or so, we've been hearing all about the rookies who will join the 2014 Fantasy game. But how quickly we forget about last year's rookies, who made us much happier by season's end than we expected.

Fantasy football playoffs time is not for the weak-hearted. You could do everything right all season, but bad weather, a fluke injury or an irrational head coach could ruin everything in 60 minutes on the field.

Congrats. If you're reading this, you've (likely) made the finals of your draft league! Now trust us, and consider handing over your precious franchise to a bench player or waiver pickup this week. Seriously.

Matt Asiata saw the end zone three times in Week 15 -- is that enough to land him on starting rosters for the fantasy football championships? And can owners expect even more out of Kirk Cousins, who filled in nicely for Robert Griffin III last week? Our fantasy experts Michael Beller, Brian Flood and Alessandro Miglio discuss those topics and more in this week's fantasy roundtable.

Last year, it was Ryan Grant. In 2011, Matt Moore took the honors. Three years ago, Jerome Simpson did the trick. Surprise heroes any other week of the year are remembered for a few days and then forgotten. Surprise Week 16 heroes are remembered forever. That will happen when a championship is at stake.

Even though we are in the final week (or second-to-final week, in some leagues) of fantasy football, there are still players available on waivers that could swing the results of championship games. Here are our best finds of the week.
